The before

Anastasia C.’s historic Tudor in Austin is the style of home she’d always dreamed of. And, as an interior designer,  she’s taken years transforming the interior to reflect her elevated organic style (see more on her Instagram and YouTube). When faced with the exterior renovation, she had no idea where to start. It looked dated and had little functionality as an outdoor living space. She turned to Yardzen for help, knowing our expert designers would help hone her vision for the landscaping, adding elements that both enhanced the historic Tudor look and created functional outdoor living space.

The vision

Loving lush and traditional landscaping, Anastasia narrowed down what she was looking for: “Texas Tudor meets English garden.” This captivating blend brings together the grandeur of Tudor-style architecture with the timeless beauty of an English garden—all while keeping in mind the Texas heat and native plants—creating a harmonious and picturesque landscape.

The design

Anastastia’s first project with Yardzen was to transform the front entry in time for holiday hosting. The front yard consists of a large circular driveway, planter beds, and an enclosed courtyard. To help bring her “Texas Tudor meets English garden” vision to life, her design team included a low-maintenance crushed limestone driveway, evocative of the English countryside, and, bushy, climate-adapted plants for the beds, plus styling recommendations to transform the courtyard from simply a place to pass through to a place to spend time and even dine outside.

The build

When it came time to build, Anastasia hired Urban Oasis Contracting – an Austin-based contractor in the Yardzen Pro Network, a group of hand-selected and verified landscape contractors throughout the country. (Learn more about Yardzen’s Pro Promise

The Urban Oasis team quickly got to work. They removed the concrete driveway and swapped it with a wide, crushed limestone drive. They added deep, winding planting beds filled with drought-tolerant blooming plants and ornamental grasses for a hearty English look. The landscaping was finished with irrigation and lighting. To transform the courtyard into a usable space, they added a gate and  tiled the courtyard floor to match the interior of the house.

Anastasia  couldn’t have been happier with the Yardzen Pro Network’s Urban Oasis Contractor. “They were the most communicative and professional landscapers I’ve ever worked with,” she says.

The final results

“We were able to make the exterior as cute and charming as the interior,” says Anastasia. The success of the Texas Tudor meets English Garden concept lies in the seamless integration of these two distinct styles. The Tudor architecture’s strong lines and stately presence complement the soft, romantic elements of the English garden, creating a balanced and visually appealing union.. Anastasia not only gained the curb appeal she sought, but also the outdoor usable space for hosting and entertaining. The updated exterior  elevates the home, making it the star of the neighborhood. And, working with her  Yardzen Pro Network made  it possible to bring her vision to a reality.
